    River Cruising: Europe and Beyond

From the castles of the Rhine to the temples of the Nile and the villages of the Mekong, we plan river journeys that bring you into the heart of every place you visit.

    Why travelers choose the river

You dock in the center of town

River ships tie up steps from old town squares, so you walk ashore and begin exploring immediately, with no tenders and no long transfers.

    Smaller ships, personal service

Most river ships carry fewer than 200 guests. The crew learns your name and your preferences within the first day.

    Inclusive by design

Many sailings include dining, wine with meals, guided excursions, and gratuities, so the price you see is close to the price you pay.

    Unpack once, see several countries

A single week can carry you through three or four countries while your stateroom travels with you.

    FAQ

    River cruise questions

The Danube is the most popular first river cruise. It combines Vienna and Budapest with charming smaller towns and gentle sailing days. The Rhine is an equally strong choice for travelers drawn to castles and scenery.

River ships are much smaller, dock in the center of towns, and sail on calm water within sight of land. The experience is quieter, more inclusive, and more focused on the destinations than on onboard entertainment.

Spring and autumn offer mild weather and fewer crowds. Summer is warm and lively, and late November through December is the season for Christmas Markets sailings.

Yes. Sailings on the Mekong, Nile, and Amazon include expert local guides and well-organized excursions, which makes them one of the most comfortable ways to experience these regions for the first time.

We recommend nine to twelve months ahead, and earlier for Christmas Markets and suite categories, which often sell out first.

It varies by cruise line, but most fares include all meals, many include wine and beer with lunch and dinner, guided shore excursions, and Wi-Fi. Some lines also include gratuities and airport transfers. We explain exactly what each option includes.
