    Independent Travel

Foreign Independent Travel done properly. The freedom of going your own way, with the structure and support of a planned trip.

Custom trips, on your own terms

Independent travel is the most flexible way to experience a region, and the most rewarding when the framework is right. We build the framework so you can focus on the experience.

Hotels selected for you, transfers arranged, optional guides on standby, and a single point of contact while you are on the ground. The trip is fully yours, and the workload is fully ours.

    What FIT Actually Means

FIT stands for Foreign Independent Travel. In practice it means a fully custom, self-guided trip, no group, no fixed schedule, no required activities. You decide the pace, the priorities, and the depth of each stop. We build the framework around it.

The result is the freedom of independent travel without the workload. Hotels are vetted and booked. Transfers are arranged. Reservations are made. A guide is on standby for the day you want one. Everything is in place before you board your flight.

    Who Independent Travel Is For

FIT suits travelers who want flexibility but not friction. You want to wake up without an itinerary briefing, drive yourself between two boutique hotels in Provence, and have someone in your corner if a train is canceled or a restaurant goes dark.

It is also ideal for repeat travelers to a region. If you have already done the highlights, an independent itinerary lets you go deeper into the corners that interest you most.

How We Build a FIT Itinerary

We start with a conversation about what you want from the trip, the kind of mornings, the kind of dinners, the level of effort you actually enjoy. From there we draft a route, recommend properties at each stop, and layer in the logistics: transfers, rentals, ferry tickets, and the handful of guided experiences worth booking in advance.

Once the framework is approved, we coordinate every reservation, share a clear day-by-day document, and stay reachable while you are traveling. The trip is yours; the work is ours.

    Why the Supplier Network Matters

Independent travel done well leans on a network of trusted ground operators. Travel Impressions and Pleasant Holidays give us strong access to Mexico, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Goway opens doors across Africa, Australia, and Asia. AmaWaterways anchors the river segments. These relationships translate directly into upgrades, amenities, and the kind of on-the-ground support that matters when something unexpected happens.

When we recommend a hotel or a transfer, it is because we have used the supplier and know how they perform when a flight delays or a plan changes mid-trip.

    FAQ

    Independent travel questions

A guided experience follows a fixed schedule with a group leader. FIT is fully independent, you control the pace, the activities, and the order. We build the structure (hotels, transfers, optional guides) but you experience the trip on your own terms.

Only when you want one. We arrange private English-speaking guides for the days that benefit from local expertise, a vineyard visit in Tuscany, a temple morning in Kyoto, a market walk in Marrakesh, and leave the rest of the trip in your hands.

Absolutely. Many of the trips we plan span two or three countries. We coordinate the train, ferry, and flight connections so the transitions feel effortless, and we make sure each stop has the right amount of time to be worthwhile.

You have a single point of contact for the entire trip. If a flight delays, a train cancels, or a hotel reservation goes sideways, we are reachable and we handle it.

Not necessarily. Because we build itineraries through preferred suppliers, the value is often equal to or better than a comparable group experience, and you get a custom trip rather than a fixed schedule.
