    Why Travel Insurance Matters

Travel insurance is one of the most overlooked yet most important elements of a well-planned trip. The investments we make in cruises, resorts, flights, and private touring are significant, and the right policy protects that investment from circumstances no one can predict.

We recommend a comprehensive travel insurance policy for nearly every trip we plan. The peace of mind it provides, particularly for international itineraries and cruise vacations, is well worth the modest cost.

    • 01

Trip cancellation coverage reimburses your prepaid, non-refundable expenses if you must cancel for a covered reason.

    • 02

Trip interruption coverage protects you if your trip is disrupted after it has begun.

    • 03

Emergency medical coverage handles illness or injury while abroad, where most domestic health insurance plans do not apply.

    • 04

Medical evacuation coverage arranges and pays for transport to an appropriate medical facility, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars without insurance.

    • 05

Baggage and personal effects coverage protects against lost, delayed, or damaged luggage.

    When to Purchase

Timing matters with travel insurance. Several of the most valuable benefits, including pre-existing condition waivers and Cancel For Any Reason coverage, are only available when the policy is purchased within a specific window after your initial trip deposit.

We recommend purchasing your policy within fourteen to twenty-one days of your first deposit to preserve eligibility for these enhanced benefits. We will remind you of this window when we present your itinerary so the timing is never missed.

What to Look for in a Policy

Not all travel insurance is created equal. The cheapest policy is rarely the best value, and many of the policies offered at checkout by airlines and online travel agencies provide minimal coverage.

    • 01

Adequate medical and evacuation limits. We recommend a minimum of $100,000 in medical coverage and $250,000 in evacuation coverage for international travel.

    • 02

Coverage for cruise-specific scenarios, including missed port departures and onboard medical care.

    • 03

Trip cancellation coverage equal to the full value of your prepaid, non-refundable expenses.

    • 04

Pre-existing condition waivers if anyone traveling has a chronic medical condition.

    • 05

Travel delay and missed connection benefits with reasonable per-day limits.

    • 06

Twenty-four hour emergency assistance with a clear claims process and responsive customer service.

Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Coverage

Standard travel insurance only reimburses cancellations for specific covered reasons such as illness, injury, or a death in the family. Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage is an optional upgrade that allows you to cancel for any reason at all and recover a percentage of your prepaid expenses.

CFAR is particularly valuable for travelers booking far in advance, families with young children, and anyone planning travel during periods of uncertainty. It must be purchased within the initial eligibility window after your first trip deposit, and it typically reimburses fifty to seventy-five percent of your trip cost.

    Cruise-Specific Considerations

Cruise vacations have unique insurance considerations that travelers often overlook. The combination of prepaid fares, airfare to and from the port, shore excursions, and onboard charges creates significant exposure if something goes wrong.

    • 01

Missed port departure coverage is essential. If a flight delay causes you to miss your ship, this benefit reimburses the cost of catching up at the next port.

    • 02

Onboard medical care is not free. A visit to the ship's medical center can cost hundreds of dollars, and a serious medical event can result in five-figure bills.

    • 03

Shore excursion cancellations may not be refundable if booked through the cruise line. Insurance can recover these costs in covered scenarios.

    • 04

Cruise lines occasionally cancel or reroute itineraries due to weather or operational issues. Travel insurance covers the resulting expenses that the cruise line does not.
