The Okavango Delta is the centerpiece of any Botswana itinerary. The annual flood transforms the Kalahari into a vast inland water system, and exploring it by mokoro (traditional dugout canoe), motorboat, and four-by-four creates a safari experience unlike anywhere else on the continent. Camps are small, intimate, and often reached only by light aircraft.
Beyond the Delta, the Linyanti and Selinda reserves offer some of the best predator viewing in Africa, the Chobe River is famous for its enormous elephant herds, and the Kalahari delivers a starker, quieter landscape that rewards travelers who want something different. The country pairs naturally with Victoria Falls and a Cape Town extension.
Best Time to Visit
May through October is the dry season and prime safari time, with peak game viewing from July through September when the Delta is in flood. November through April is the green season, with lower rates, dramatic skies, and excellent birding.

Okavango Delta
We arrange stays at small water-based and land-based camps inside the Delta's private concessions, where guest numbers are limited and off-road driving and night drives are permitted. Mokoro outings, motorboat journeys, walking safaris, and game drives are typically all available from the same camp, giving travelers a multi-dimensional safari.
Linyanti and Selinda
These private reserves north of the Delta are among the best places in Africa for big cats and wild dogs. Camps are small, exclusive, and surrounded by river systems that draw enormous concentrations of game in the dry season.
Chobe and Victoria Falls
The Chobe River supports the largest elephant population in Africa, and a stay on the river pairs naturally with a short transfer to Victoria Falls on the Zambia or Zimbabwe side. We plan the entire transition, including the helicopter flight over the falls.
Kalahari and Makgadikgadi
For travelers who have already done a classic safari, the Kalahari and the Makgadikgadi salt pans offer a starkly different experience. Quad biking across the pans, sleeping out under the stars, and meeting the San communities who have lived in the desert for millennia create one of the most memorable extensions in southern Africa.
Practical notes
Maun (MUB) and Kasane (BBK) are the main gateways for safari travel. Most camps are reached by light aircraft on inclusive packages.
Botswana operates a low-volume, high-value tourism model. Camp rates are higher than in some neighboring countries, but inclusions, exclusivity, and guiding standards are exceptional.
We coordinate all internal flights, camp transitions, and visa requirements. US citizens do not need a visa for stays under 90 days.
We recommend a minimum of seven nights in Botswana, ideally combined with Victoria Falls or Cape Town for a ten- to fourteen-night southern Africa itinerary.
