Arenal and the Central Highlands
The Arenal Volcano area offers hot springs, hanging bridges, waterfall hikes, and a wide range of adventure activities. The town of La Fortuna is the gateway, with lodges ranging from budget-friendly to ultra-elevated. The surrounding highlands are lush and green year-round, with coffee plantations and river valleys adding scenic variety.
Monteverde Cloud Forest
Perched in the misty highlands, Monteverde is home to one of the world's most important cloud forest reserves. The hanging bridges, canopy zip-lines, and naturalist-led walks reveal an ecosystem where orchids, bromeliads, and the resplendent quetzal thrive in near-constant mist. It is cooler and wetter than the lowlands, and the atmosphere is almost otherworldly.
Manuel Antonio and the Central Pacific
Manuel Antonio National Park is the country's most visited park, and for good reason. White sand beaches, diverse wildlife (including the endangered squirrel monkey), and a compact trail system make it accessible and rewarding. The surrounding area offers good restaurants, boutique hotels, and a variety of water-based activities.
Osa Peninsula
The wildest and most remote corner of Costa Rica, the Osa Peninsula is home to Corcovado National Park, which National Geographic has called the most biologically intense place on earth. Getting here requires a small plane or boat, but the reward is an immersion in primary rainforest with wildlife diversity that is unmatched in Central America. Guanacaste and the Pacific North
The driest region of Costa Rica, Guanacaste offers beautiful beaches, resort-style accommodations, and proximity to Liberia airport. Eco-Adventure
Costa Rica is the world's leader in eco-tourism. Zip-lining, rappelling, caving, and jungle trekking are all part of the experience. The Monteverde Cloud Forest offers some of the most dramatic canopy journeys in the world, with platforms suspended hundreds of feet above the forest floor. White-water rafting on the Pacuare River, which cuts through a remote river canyon surrounded by primary rainforest, is one of the most exhilarating outdoor experiences in Central America. We arrange all adventure activities with operators who prioritize safety, sustainability, and quality of guiding.
Wildlife Encounters
Sloths, toucans, monkeys, and sea turtles are just a few of the species you may encounter. We arrange guided nature walks in Manuel Antonio National Park (where wildlife density is exceptional), night walks that reveal the nocturnal creatures of the rainforest, and turtle nesting excursions on the Caribbean coast (seasonal). In the Osa Peninsula, Corcovado National Park is home to the most biodiverse corner of the country, with jaguars, tapirs, and all four species of Costa Rican monkeys. We work with naturalist guides who know where to look and how to interpret what you are seeing.

Beach and Surf

The Pacific coast runs the gamut from the developed beaches of Guanacaste (ideal for families and resort-seekers) to the surf breaks of Santa Teresa and Nosara (ideal for yogis and wave-riders). The Caribbean side, centered on Puerto Viejo and Cahuita, has a completely different vibe: Afro-Caribbean culture, reggae rhythms, and reef snorkeling in warm, shallow water. Practical notes
Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) near San Jose is the main gateway. Liberia (LIR) serves the northern Pacific coast.
Internal transfers can be arranged by private driver or domestic flight, depending on your itinerary.
No visa is required for US citizens. A valid passport with at least six months remaining is required.
Costa Rica uses the colon, but US dollars are widely accepted in tourist areas.
We recommend a minimum of seven to ten days to experience multiple regions without feeling rushed.
