North Male Atoll
The closest atoll to the international airport, North Male offers speedboat transfers (no seaplane required) and a wide selection of resorts. It is the most developed atoll, with properties ranging from affordable to ultra-elevated. The convenience of the transfer makes it a good option for shorter stays or travelers arriving on late flights.
South Ari Atoll
Famous for year-round whale shark sightings, South Ari is one of the best atolls for marine life encounters. The Maldives is a Muslim country. Resorts operate independently, but modest dress is appropriate when visiting inhabited local islands.
Seaplane transfers operate only during daylight hours. If your flight arrives late, an overnight in Male may be required.
We recommend a minimum stay of five nights to justify the travel time and fully settle into the pace of island life.

About Maldives

Seven nights is the typical sweet spot. The seaplane or speedboat transfer from Malé takes meaningful time, and most travelers want at least five full days at the resort to make the journey worthwhile.
November through April is the dry season with calm seas and clear skies. May through October is the wet season, which brings lower rates but more rain and rougher water.
